Terms
Plain-English terms. These apply when you use any part of Gridscoot — the website, the MCP server, the REST API, or any data Gridscoot returns. By using Gridscoot you accept these terms; if you don't accept them, don't use Gridscoot.
What this is
Gridscoot is a free information aggregation service for Australian retail price discovery, surfaced via an MCP server (primary surface) and a public REST API (secondary). Gridscoot aggregates prices, stock signals, and product metadata from retailer affiliate feeds and public sources, deduplicates products by barcode, and surfaces what it observed at the time of observation.
Throughout these terms, "Gridscoot", "we", "us", and "our" mean the operator of the Gridscoot service. "You" means any person or system that uses Gridscoot, whether anonymously, through an API key, or through an agent acting on your behalf.
No warranty on data
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gridscoot is provided "as is" and "as observed". We make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about any of the following:
- Price accuracy. Prices change minute-by-minute at retailers. The prices we show are observations from cached feeds and may be stale, incorrect, mis-converted, currency-converted with rounding, mis-keyed by the retailer, or no longer offered.
- Stock availability. Stock fields reflect the most recent feed update and may be wrong by the time you click through. A retailer may show the product as available on our site and out of stock on theirs.
- Product identity and specifications. Product matching is automated. Two products with the same barcode may differ in colour, region, packaging, or accessories. Product titles, images, and specifications are reproduced from retailer feeds and may be incorrect, outdated, or misleading.
- Product legality, safety, recall status, or fitness for any purpose. We do not verify whether a listed product is legal in your state or territory, has been recalled, complies with Australian standards, is genuine, or is safe to use. We do not test, inspect, or certify products.
- Retailer identity, solvency, or honesty. We index retailer feeds that we believe to be from legitimate Australian retailers, but we do not verify their legal standing, their inventory practices, their delivery commitments, their warranty handling, or their continued existence.
- Search relevance.Search and matching are best-effort. A "best offer" may not be the cheapest, the same product, or even relevant to your query. Match confidence scores are heuristics, not guarantees.
- Affiliate-link integrity. The affiliate parameters on outbound links may not attribute correctly, may not credit a purchase, or may be stripped by the retailer.
- Service continuity. The service may be intermittently or permanently unavailable without notice.
All implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment are excluded to the maximum extent permitted by law. See §10 below for what cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law.
No reliance on Gridscoot data
You must not rely on Gridscoot data as the sole basis for any purchase, financial, legal, safety, or operational decision. Always verify price, availability, product identity, and retailer terms directly at the retailer before purchasing or committing.
Gridscoot is a discovery aid. It is not financial advice, legal advice, product advice, or a substitute for due diligence. If an agent acts on Gridscoot data on your behalf, the verification obligation still rests with you.
We are not a seller or retailer
Gridscoot is not a retailer, marketplace, broker, or agent of any retailer. We do not:
- take title to or hold inventory of any product;
- set, control, or negotiate the prices that retailers list;
- process payment for any product;
- ship, deliver, install, or warrant any product;
- issue receipts, invoices, or tax documents for any retailer sale;
- handle returns, refunds, exchanges, warranty claims, or after-sales support for any product.
When you click an outbound link from Gridscoot to a retailer and purchase a product, your contract is between you and that retailer, on the retailer's own terms. We have no involvement in, and accept no responsibility for, the formation, performance, or breach of that contract.
Affiliate disclosure
Outbound links to retailers may carry affiliate tracking parameters. If you complete a qualifying purchase after following such a link, the retailer pays Gridscoot a commission. You pay the same retailer price either way— the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not yours. Affiliate networks currently in use or pending include eBay Partner Network, Commission Factory, and Amazon Associates Australia.
We do not reorder, re-rank, or otherwise adjust our results to favour higher-commission retailers. Ranking is algorithmic and the same data is available via the public REST API for independent verification. See /about for the ranking method and /privacy for what we collect.
Acceptable use
When you use Gridscoot you agree not to:
- exceed the documented rate limits issued with your API key (currently 60 search calls/minute and 20 alert creations/hour on the free tier — exact numbers ship with each key);
- attempt to scrape, mirror, or bulk-export the catalogue without prior written permission;
- probe, scan, fuzz, attack, or otherwise attempt to disrupt the service, its underlying infrastructure, or its third-party providers;
- circumvent authentication, rate-limiting, abuse-prevention, or quota controls;
- use Gridscoot to facilitate spam, fraud, harm to consumers, market manipulation, or any activity that is illegal under Australian law;
- redistribute Gridscoot data in a way that misrepresents its origin, freshness, or the disclaimers attached to it;
- use Gridscoot in any way that creates liability for us, our infrastructure providers, or the retailers we index.
We may suspend or terminate access for any account or anonymous source we reasonably believe is in breach of these terms, without notice and without refund (the service is free; there is nothing to refund).
Service availability + force majeure
We aim to keep Gridscoot available but make no formal service-level commitments during early access. The service depends on third-party providers (hosting, database, retailer feeds, affiliate networks, embedding providers, email providers) and on the public internet. Outages, delays, data loss, or degraded results caused by any of those providers, or by events beyond our reasonable control (including but not limited to denial-of-service attacks, regulatory action, provider insolvency, telecommunications failure, fire, flood, or pandemic), are not the responsibility of Gridscoot.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service or any tool, endpoint, or feature at any time, with or without notice. Where reasonably practicable we will announce material changes on the landing page and to registered users.
Limitation of liability
Subject to §10 (Australian Consumer Law), and to the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Gridscoot is not liable to you for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including without limitation lost profits, lost savings, lost business opportunity, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or any cost of substitute goods or services, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, Gridscoot, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages;
- Gridscoot is not liable for any claim, loss, or damage caused by retailer-side acts or omissions — including but not limited to wrong price, wrong product, non-delivery, late delivery, defective product, unsafe product, recalled product, or breach of retailer terms — even if Gridscoot surfaced the listing that led to the transaction;
- the total aggregate liability of Gridscoot to you, arising out of or in connection with the service (whether in contract, tort, statute, or otherwise), is capped at the greater of (a) AUD $100 or (b) the total fees you have paid Gridscoot in the twelve months preceding the claim — which, on the current free tier, is AUD $0.
Your indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Gridscoot, its operator(s), and any contributors, against any claim, demand, loss, liability, cost, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:
- your breach of these terms;
- your reliance on Gridscoot data for any purchase, financial, legal, safety, or operational decision (notwithstanding §3);
- your misuse of the service, the API, the MCP, or the data; or
- any activity conducted through your account or API key, regardless of whether that activity was authorised by you, unless caused by Gridscoot's gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
Australian Consumer Law
Where the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or any equivalent state legislation applies and gives you rights or guarantees that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified by these terms, then to the extent of that application:
- nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies those rights;
- our liability for failure to comply with a non-excludable consumer guarantee in respect of a service is limited, at our option, to re-supplying the service or to paying the cost of having the service re-supplied. Because Gridscoot is supplied free of charge, the cost of re-supply is nil.
This section §10 prevails over any inconsistent provision elsewhere in these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may amend these terms at any time. The version, effective date, and revision history are shown at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the landing page and, where we hold a contact email for you, by email. Your continued use of Gridscoot after the effective date of an amendment is your acceptance of the amended terms.
Severability + entire agreement
If any provision of these terms is held to be invalid, unenforceable, or illegal in any jurisdiction, that provision is to be read down to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable in that jurisdiction, and the remainder of the terms continues in full force and effect.
These terms, together with our Privacy policy and any additional notices we publish for a specific feature or interface, constitute the entire agreement between you and Gridscoot in relation to the service, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, whether oral or written.
No failure or delay by Gridscoot to enforce any provision of these terms operates as a waiver of that provision. You may not assign these terms without our prior written consent; we may assign them to a successor in connection with a transfer of the service.
Governing law + jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the law in force in New South Wales, Australia. You and Gridscoot submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New South Wales and the courts competent to hear appeals from them. Disputes that fall under the Australian Consumer Law may also be brought through the appropriate state and federal consumer-protection channels.
