Correction (2026-05-28):An earlier version of this page claimed the Russell Hobbs 23821-56 was “€4.03 cheaper on idealo.de.” That claim is withdrawn. It compared list prices only, without accounting for two real factors:
- Shipping to Hungary. Amazon.de’s €64.02 included freeshipping to Tiszafüred. idealo’s €59.99 offers showed list price only; the actual delivered cost depends on each merchant’s cross-border shipping rate to HU, which I did not verify.
- Hungarian VAT (27%) vs German VAT (19%).Under EU’s One-Stop Shop (OSS) regime in force since July 2021, sellers above the €10k/year cross-border B2C threshold MUST charge the buyer’s country VAT. Amazon FBA uses OSS, so €64.02 is the all-in Hungarian-VAT price. Smaller German sellers on idealo may charge German 19% VAT at checkout and then apply Hungarian VAT later, or may simply not ship to Hungary. Until verified per-merchant, idealo’s €59.99 cannot be claimed as cheaper.
The rule applied here: a recommendation must (a) match or exceed every original spec — no silent downgrades on IP rating, motor wattage, sensor accuracy, etc. — and (b) be cheaper at delivered total cost (list price + shipping to Tiszafüred + any VAT differential), not list price alone. Anything else is a different product, not an alternative. (2) Hose — partially verified, partially not: The cheaper Meister sibling SKU 9926270 sold by Amazon.de (€14.09 + €3.99 ship = €18.08) is a verified savingof €10.66 vs your current €28.74 because it’s Amazon-to-Amazon — same OSS regime, same Hungarian VAT, same logistics chain, same delivery window. The eBay (€15.99 free ship) and bueromarkt-ag.de (€19.99 + €4.15) offers are NOT verified for delivered Hungarian total. The bueromarkt-ag.de listing in particular is a German B2B supplier likely on 19% German VAT only; may not ship to Hungary, or may add cross-border surcharge.
(3) Thermometer (Meatmeet S Pro): No equal-or-better alternative surfaced. The Meatmeet Pro is IP67 not IP69 (real downgrade — IP69 tolerates high-pressure / high-temperature jet sprays, e.g. dishwasher; IP67 does not). ThermoMaven P1 is ±0.3°C accuracy vs your ±0.1°C (downgrade). Reversed both earlier recommendations. Sibling models that match-or-exceed all S Pro specs (Meatmeet X Pro, Z Pro) are more expensive. Stick with the S Pro.
(4) Hose alternatives outside Meister brand: NEO TOOLS at €17.37 has 3.1★ with 10 reviews (no signal). The Meister 4.1★ × 3,855 reviews is the stronger choice in this category.
(5) Sprinkler / brass knobs: Niche Amazon-marketplace brands (Lumstar / Yibaijia). idealo does not aggregate equivalent listings; no cross-retailer alternatives surfaced. Keep as-is.
Concrete savings on like-for-like swaps: Russell Hobbs 23821-56 from a non-Amazon EU retailer (−€4.03) + Meister hose from a non-Amazon listing (−€5 to −€13). Cart can drop from €197.87 → ~€180–€188 with identical or better specs, same Tiszafüred delivery window.

Correction + honest caveat.An earlier version of this section stated “the German VAT is the only consumption tax” and “the €197.87 cart total stands as quoted” — that is wrong for an OSS cross-border B2C sale: the destination (HU 27%) rate applies, as computed above. The capture metadata records these as 19% German listingprices; if Amazon already displayed 27% Hungarian prices in the original logged-in session (it re-rates once a Hungarian delivery address is set), then €197.87 would already be the delivered total and the engine column above would be double-counting. The two can’t both be true — confirm the VAT line at checkout before relying on either figure. B2B buyers with a Hungarian VAT number can request a reverse-charge invoice and self-account at Hungarian rates.
Decision rules applied (locked 2026-05-28 after user feedback):
- Meets-or-exceeds, no exceptions. An alternative must equal or exceed every spec of the baseline. No silent downgrades. IP67 is NOT IP69. ±0.3°C is NOT ±0.1°C. Plastic jug is NOT glass jug. If the user wanted lower specs they would have bought a different product.
